Moon Raider (Demo)
A downloadable game for Windows and macOS
This is a demo.
This game is in development. There will be bugs. Please let me know if you find them.
Ava is the young daughter of the brilliant-but-aging scientist Dr. Cavor and Selene, the former queen of the moon. As a selenite, Selene's life depends on the special energy only moon gems can provide. With none left and time running out, Dr. Cavor enlists his daughter to raid the moon of as many gems as she can find!
Ava must survive the treacherous catacombs deep beneath the surface of the moon. Her enemies, a legion of corrupt aliens that now rule the moon with force, are far less primitive than they first appear. Their world is full of terrifying technology, deadly traps, and armed soldiers at the ready. Ava soon realizes that the only way to save her mother is to save the moon from itself.

This demo was a whole bunch of fun! It's one of those games where you play it for a while and it feels like you've played it before, like it's always existed. It's a comfortable, familiar experience whilst being something completely new at the same time.
What you've got here is a standard side-scrolling shooter platformer game with awesome character designs and a lot of scenery to be interacted with. Once you tap into the powers of the crystals you've been collecting the gameplay ramps up a notch as you zip around the screens Super Sonic style!
It was a blast, and I really can't wait to play more of this! =)
Just tried the demo and I had a nice experience, it controls well. Pixel art and animation are top notch, the "dash" was when it really got fun, but I think insta-death by lava is a bit severe.
Still, this project is looking promising!
Hey! Congrats on this excellent demo. I played through it and it's awesome. Great character design and art. Fantastic controls. Really lovely.
One thing I noticed, is the teeny-tiny gaps between tiles and sprites. This is something I have come across in Unity as well. Here's how to definitively fix it:
1. In the project window, create a new material and call it something like "FixSpriteGaps", to help you remember what it does.
2. Up at the top, where it says "Shader", select "Sprites" and then "Default".
3. A little checkbox appears, which says "Pixel Snap". Check that box. This material is done.
4. Now, in the all objects in the scene-hierarchy that have SpriteRenderer components, drag your "FixSpriteGaps" material in the material slot (By default, it has the "Sprites-Default" material slotted).
Of course, you have to do that for every single sprite in the game, which doing so retroactively may take a really boring hour or so, but it's totally worth it. I hope that helps. Great game. Super awesome!
excellent demo! the tight, responsive controls made platforming and using the dash ability fun. felt the camera and audio settings needed some work, and i experienced a couple bugs, but no doubt these problems will be ironed out before release if they haven't been already. congrats on reaching the kickstarter campaign goal. i wish the game's development well!
Moon Raider may just be a demo for now, but it definitely has some potential. It has its own style, but shows a wide variety of classic inspiration, and I like that about it. And even when I didn't know exactly what to do in the game, I still had fun.Good job, devs.
One of the best platformer games :D i hope you enjoy my gameplay
Glad you liked it! I was surprised to see you tap the melee/dash button instead of holding it. :)
Oh i didn't realize that i can do it lol
wait how do you do melee (～￣▽￣)～
